This past Wednesday evening we went searching
for Elsa in the Midway Ice Castles.
We did not find Elsa, but the sky was sure showing off her magic.
The ice castles are located in Midway, Utah about a 50-60 minute drive from Salt Lake City. Midway is a cute little town, with some pretty cool stuff near by. We usually visit once a year for the annual Swiss Days event.
If you are making the drive up there, you can hit up the epic tubing hill at Soldier Hollow, or warm up with a soak in the Homestead Crater. Both of which often have Groupons.
TIPS FOR VISITING THE ICE CASTLES
I would recommend getting your tickets online before you go, to reserve your spot and to save a few bucks! They do sell out often, so make sure to grab yours early!
They are located at the Soldier Hollow Nordic Center: 2002 Olympic Drive, Midway, Utah 84049.
Wear your snow clothes, or lots of layers!! They small slide works better with snow pants, but the larger slide they give you a little mat to ride down on.
WEAR SNOW BOOTS, or WATER PROOF SHOES! It is a bit slushy and icy (obviously ;).
Bring your camera, or make sure your phone is charged and ready to take a lot of pictures.
They have two slides, an ice throne, an ice maze, sweet treats, and a sleigh ride available. It is awesome to just wander and check out the impressive ice formations.
In the day time you get the pretty blues, and at night they light it up with LED lights– I would definitely recommend going a little bit before the sunset so you get the best of both.
