The Sassy Water Recipe– BIG BATCH
2 liters water (about 8½ c)
1 tsp freshly grated ginger
1 med cucumber, peeled and thinly sliced
1 med lemon, thinly sliced
12 sm spearmint leaves
My Single Jar Recipe:
1/2 of a lemon sliced
5-6 thinly sliced cucumber (not peeled)
3-4 mint leaves
a few shreds of ginger
fill up with ice and water
Health Benefits:
“Ginger in the sassy water is said, by Flat Belly Diet authors, to “calm and soothe” your gastrointestinal tract. Ginger does effectively deter nausea and has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Fresh mint and lemon also aid digestion and discourage stomach bloat. Cucumber and the other ingredients help give the water flavor.” Livestrong, 2017
“You’ve probably heard that you need about eight glasses of water a day for adequate hydration. Drinking water and even eating “watery” foods like melon, greens, and other fruits and vegetables has enormous health benefits, including warding off fatigue. But perhaps the most important belly benefit of proper hydration is how it helps maintain your body’s proper fluid balance and guard against water retention. It also helps prevent constipation, which can cause bloating. Eight glasses of water is just a guideline; everyone’s fluid needs vary according to activity level and body. The ginger also helps calm and soothe your GI tract.” Prevention, 2011
Every night I fill a quart sized mason jar with 5-6 slices of cukes, about half of a lemon, a few mint leaves, and pinch of grated ginger.
I buy a ginger root, peel it and keep it in the freezer. When I need some I just use my potato peeler. Also, the mint needs to be twisted and broke apart, to better release the herb’s oil. Without fail, it always tastes great. I just fill it up with ice and water all day.
The biggest reason I love it tho, it tastes AWESOME.
I usually drink a lot of water, but I feel like I drink a lot more when I make a sassy.
Cheers to this pretty, refreshing beverage!
